"This is not the end, nor is it even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
That's a very "rap-stylo-milo-quote" from the famous Winston Churchill during the WWII and he was referring to Al-Alamien. This is where I am right now 25 years later...at the desert.
I went to visit the Commonwealth cemetary nearby the machine shop and I was told by the locals that every year around October, the deceased soldier family will fly from all over the world to pay tribute to their family member....who fought a war on the desert.
I also went to the Military museum next to the cemetary....which is quite welly presented by Egyptian standard. The entrance is 5 LE and I am the VIP of the day! :) We were the only visitors during my 30minutes tour there together with my Egyptian colleague.
There's alot of war machine like tanker and aeroplane on display outside the main buliding...as shown at the photo above...Most of these motha fucka killing machines was abonded in the desert by Hitler's German army.
My colleague told me there's still alot of land mines left behind in the desert around our machine shop...but human weight won't trigger the mines, those were for heavier war machine like Lai Huat.
Aside from being famous for its war history, Alamein is also very famous for its Mediterranean beach. It attracts the richest of Egypt to come here during summer, and the average hotel cost is 2000LE/day.
Wikied Al AlameinDear, next time we can pretend to be the "Richest of Egypt Expat Couple from China" and spend our weekend here...I really like their Venetian style canal. I will lay on the beach whole day, drink my cold beer, wear my Mad Dog sun glass and watch the naked ang moh lady do their tanning...heheh....slurp :p !!
See ya tomorrow!
