Chipsy + Office + The Curse!

This is the Chipsy I like, spiced cheese flavour!

My personal office at Maadi. Not big but it has everything I need. It is situated next the the staircase entrance, so everyone will know I am still sleeping in the bed when they see my door shut in the morning :p

The desk was originally facing the door, I re-adjusted it. I told my colleague if my desk face the door, it will bring me bad luck....like stepping on dog poos everyday. My wife told me one lor....I don't believe in all these, I just want to minimise the distraction coming from outside.

I think the previous occupier purposely put the desk that way just so that he can peek at the beautiful PA through the door. (See bb, I not naughty even when you are not around k!)

I swear, or else I will be haunted by The Curse at night!

sorry lah Yen Ling....I buy you Chipsy ok!?

My Dear Dear new Toy!!!!

I finally bought my dear dream toy!!! He had been eying it for a long time. This year we finally got it. hehe But too bad I will be the one to play first. Dear will only get to use it in May.:P

BB look the Screen can turn cool right. The right side is the front of the camera.

The left is the screen original position, BB the screen is a touch screen so very good leh, not need to look for all the buttons.
Below is the 1st sample video - the star is Rocky Boy!!! AKA Milk Chocolate I shot this in the highest quality video.

Long walk from home

MAP 1 (Click to enlarge)

MAP 2 (Click to enlarge)

On 16th March, my colleague, Mahmoud was so kind that he drove me to the computer mall. His friend gave me a good discount and I might buy the laptop from there after I get ADSL at my apartment.

After leaving the mall, I told Mahmoud I want to wonder around the area for awhile and ask him to go home first.

I can be very adventurous if I have a good map with me. I went to Beijing few years ago all by myself, and I toured the city including the Great Wall in a week by walking (lots of walking!!), taking public buses and train. I even boarded a motorcycle taxi which failed to produce his "business permit" when stopped by police.

My favourite mode of exploring and commuting around a new city it is still "walking". I like the close interactions with the surrounding and the people when I walk. I like to stop to see what I want to see whenever I like, I like to explore into the local shops.....it is very fun and satisfying when I do it that way.

So I decided to walk all the way back to my apartment at Maadi. Despite the crazy evening winds strong enough to blow my trousers away if I don't zip up. Well, it did blow away a cigarettes, and a few chairs.

BB, are you ready for my adventure? Get Set, deep breath...relax...and GOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Start Point "A" - Nice evening sun and beautiful "fire" tree.

Look at MAP 1 and you can find me next to the main road called Misr-Helwan. How I get my bearing/Start Point Position? I found the name plate of the road on a wall next to a rubbish dumping ground and I knew I was between the Nile River and Misr-Helwan.

Getting your bearing in Maadi is tough, all the buildings have the same colour and structure. The road names are mostly in Arabic and even if it's in English, it's erratic. To find a road sign is like looking for oasis in the desert. You have to basically look at every corner, every wall and if you are lucky, you can find one with faded prints. You can also try to ask for direction, but make sure you pronounce the road name in Arabic fashion, no the ABC fashion. But there's no guarantee that the Egyptian will point you to the right direction though.

Point B : Mighty Egyptian sun coming from the Nile river direction.

The tall building in Point B is the Sofitel Hotel at the Nile River bank. It's impossible to stare at the sun in Egypt. It make me feel thatI can almost touch the sun if I am 1 foot taller..hehe

I took a left turn along the Misr-Helwan road, into Road 159 and Midan al-lttihad. Midan in Egypt simply means square. It can be a big traffic round-about, or just a small green pasture area where by all the roads junction unites there.

I crossed the overhead bridge above the metro rail (MAP 1-Section C1-Point B1). Pedestrian and motorcyles are sharing the bridge and I believe donkeys use it too. I planned to take road 72 and connect to the long Road 77.

After too many small alleys and too many road site "cigarettes and drinks" stalls and de-javu alley, I managed to "guess" my way into Road 12 (couldn't find any road sign) and reached the main Road - Ahmed Zaki Street. I was at point C now.

Point C: Position confirmed....I found the sign plate!

I coundn't find any sign to enter into road 77. But I re-positioned myself with the sighting of the big Maadi Sporting & Yacht Club.

A friendly Egyptian working at fruit juice stall waved at me and borrowed my lighther before I went in to Road 77.

Point D: Road 77 and the sport lights from Maadi Sporting Club on the right.

Road 77 is quite unique. It's long and it's was cluttered with shophouses, very old shophouses.

I proceed and reached Point E. I couldn't make up my mind where I should continue when I reached this junction. I couldn't find any sign leading to the smaller section of Road 77. Few buidings were torn down at this area and I believed they torn down the road sign 0n the wall as well.

Point E: The lively and busy junction.

Some how, I was "attracted" into Point F direction. A very lively street with bright lights and huge crowd. But the street is so small that I doubt it is Road 77 that I was looking for. (Which in fact, is the correct direction!)

Point E: Crowdy and colourful 77th street..hmm..sounds like popular fashion brand in Singapore

I nearly bought a door lock at one of the shops there. But I decided to save a few pounds and few ounces of sweat. I will get my company contractor to do it.

The locals are very comfortable with my presence although I look strange like a Chinese guy with Ang Moh's hair colour. My collegue once told me : "Vincent, your hair is artificial. I want also!". See? They are clever and they like to look handsome like me too..hehe.

After spending around 20 minutes in this "small alley" that seems leading to no where, I decided to U-turn and try other route.

...and I was happy when I see the rail road at point G, at that moment I thought I was on the correct Raod 77.

I was wrong, but I was lucky also. Because it lead me to a distinguished landmark later.

Point G: The rail road I was looking for, but at the wrong junction!

So I crossed this unguarded, no barrier rail road (while watching left and right just to make sure I don't get run over by a train), and walked happily towards point H.

I stopped for awhile at point H and realised that I was not on Road 77. I was not panic at all. I looked around and saw 2 giant white mushrooms not far away: big satelite dish! I know this place!

Point H: Opposite the road is the satelite station...can't see the satelite from the photo

I also spotted 2 policeman "lurking" at a dark corner in their small hut. The streets in Cairo are always dim. I will advice anyone who want to go out at night to have a pair of sneakers/sport shoes on. Watch out for pot holes...broken glasses and of course...sand! If you wear a slipper to go out...alibaba God bless you.

So I asked the policeman for the direction of Point I, and they point me 3 different directions...except the sky! Okay, nevermind, this time I clever, I ask them :"Mohmein?". Mohmein is a very popular place in Maadi...so I get my direction right.

I reached Point I and confirmed my location with this sign board:

Point I: The "EL-NSSR" road....printed wrongly lah...should be EL-NASR road.

I knew exactly where I was by now and I knew my way home. I decided to reward myself with CHINESE food at PEKING restaurant at Point J.

Point J: The PEKING restaurant

My dinner

I ordered Heineken beer (YEAHHHH!!...finally I tasted beer in this alcohol deprieved country), Peking roasted duck and hot&sour soup. The soup was good but not the duck. The famous "Quan De" roasted duck in Beijing is still the best! yummy yum-mymy!. I paid a grand total of 91LE for my meal. My most expensive meal by far. But I was happy :p !

After my meal, I made my victorious way home (Point K), fully satisfied mentally and stomach-ishly.

Point K: Home "not-so-sweet-without-my-wife" home.

This is where I stay. The apartment at ground level (more like a dungeon level) sells furniture and also an electrical shop at first level (As in the picture).

Total time taken: 2hrs. (Including 30minutes at PEKING)

Real Random

What I eat:

Meal A

Chinese " Chap Chai Peng" at Carrefour (ManChu Wok). One word " Lousy". An event was held nearby the dining area for children...It was so noisy and annoying, no common sense at all. I can have permanent hearing damage very soon.
Price: 30LE with drinks

Meal B

Not too bad. MO'MEN sandwich. Not too expensive also. A combo meal will give you a can of drinks, fries and a big sandwich. You can choose beef kebab, chicken kebab, fried chicken...etc for your sandwich. I almost didn't get my sandwich when I walk away after they gave me the fries and drinks. An Egyptian customer was so kind that he rush out from the restaurant to stop me. Where to get the sandwich then? At a side corner....outside the restaurant...oh well.
Price: 25LE

Meal C

Self cooked meal. Mixed vegetable chicken soup + Steam egg. My bb teach me how to make steam egg...I twisted it a little bit by adding in Egyptian "Molokhai".

Meal D

Roasted Suckling Pig. Haha...that's actually my scars after I karate-ko the table with my butt.
===============================================================

What I buy:

I bought this made in China artificial wood frame clock during one late night shopping. There's this 24hrs supermarket nearby.
My hands were itchy that night and I went to spend my money away. Okay, not very expensive lah... 30LE only mah.
I almost curse out loud when I brought it home, put in the battery and the clock dead. Turn out, I installed the battery the other way lor.
See the "tongue" of the clock? It actually swings! I like it.
=============================================================

Where I go:
I went to Carrefour.

That's also the first time I waived down the "worst than my grandfather's father's car" taxi. BB very worried, everytime ask me don't take taxi, scared they take me and sell me away to nearby Sudan to work as their boy maid. I tempted the taxi driver with 20LE before I board his taxi and he said "Mesh!" (Means ok in Arabic)....I arrived at Carrefour in less than 10 minutes.

Wah sai.....they got SPRINGFIELD in Carrefour... beranded leh.

It was damn crowded.

It was a Friday and after the prayer everyone rush to Carrefour to shop shop shop. Traffic jam! All the shopping trolley and all the crowds.... Glasses broken everywhere nearby the Glass section, kids opening the Pepsi can nearby the softdrinks section and spill on meh!!!....Sugar...rice...flour all over the floor at dried food section...worst than pasar malam lah!

Me with rubbish bin

I was so piss off with all the "illegally parked" shopping trolleys that jam the traffic all the way back to "Woodlands Road"....and gave up on telling almost everyone to give way... I junked the trolley and took a blue plastic bin to keep all my items! Hmm, much better.

More problem at the Cashier counter.....again the queue was all the way back to "Old Woodlands Road" again. Heavilly loaded trolley can be seen everywhere...yeah, when Egyptian tell you they go out for "some" groceries shopping, DON"T BELIEVE what they say! They will buy back the whole Carrefour if they can afford it!

I would never buy 30 cans of Yogurt, 10 pieces of T-shift, 10 pieces of soap, 2 cartons of cooking oils, 5 boxes of tooth paste, 30 rolls of toilet tissue, 6 freaking packs of frozen chicken, one big microwave, 5 pairs of slipper all same size.....................and many many more items...ALL AT ONE GO!

Well, I waited for at least 40 minutes at the casheir..and that's only for waiting 2 family queuing infront of me to clear all their purchases! Not to mentioned a few quarrels among them when someone "jump queue" half way.

Man...that was an interesting shopping experience isn't it?

Our Wedding Cards!!

Card A

Card B

Card C

Card D
Dear, I'd finally place the deposite for our wedding. You choose the card. I'm okie with all of them. So what you think??
I told mummy about your little accident, she said you become so fat ah!!! muahahaha

A minor accident

Last night, I rearranged the TV set, to make it more "viewable" from the sofa set. Then the perfectionist me want to make sure the TV is aligned parallel to the audience, so even a 1degree angle deviation is considered a lousy job done.
I was sitting down at the coffee table trying to adjust the TV set and...WHAMP!...me and my royal butt crashed the glass top and broke the wooden frame.
-
I was confused for that split second (NO, I didn't scream like a horrified lady) when my butt "penetrated" thru the glass top, but I was also able to hold on to the edge of the remaining frames at the same time and safe my butt. I don't want to look like a porcupine with bleeding backside.

After accident evaluation: I got some minor bruises at my back and arm. I have also came to a conclusion that it is not my fault (I am slightly overweight at this time but that's normal for a middle age man recovering from winter hibernation..hehe). I told myself I will never ever sit on any kind of table in Egypt again!
.
=================

My health supplement pills. I counted the number of pills I need to consume daily before I meet my wife again, and put them into this bottle. When the bottle becomes empty, it means my wife will be next to me.

My dinner

This is my dinner. Porridge with mussels (not nice one...the mussels tasteless), fried onion egg and cabbage.
I like to cook but I hate to prepare and clean up afterwards. :p

What I do when I was having my dinner alone at home? I watch NBA TV! Last night I watched Lebron James Cleveland Cavaliers played against Indiana Pacers. Man, Lebron is damn good, almost un-guardable.

My Lunch Today

Yeap...you are looking at it now.

This yummy shrimps with rice is my personal favourite "fast food" whenever I feel like to have a quick meal. It costs 5LE with awful lots of shrimps on top of the rice. See it from the first picture and you know liao. The colour of the rice is like fried rice in Singapore, except the Egypt version has 99 more shrimps than the Singapore one.

This store that sell this shrimp rice is located between my office and apartment, about 100meter from each way. They also sell various other seafood like calamari rice, big shrimps rice and various seafood wrapped in local bread. You can also pick the fish from the store, and ask them to cook it for you. I once tried their seafood soup...very tasty neh!

Chipsy

On the left: Chili + Lime flavour On the Right: Cheese flavour
-
Chipsy is the national brand for potatoes chips. You can find it at every grocery shops in Egypt. It goes for 3LE per pack. Oh yeah, you are right, now you can affort to eat potatoes chips everyday at just 0.80cents Singapore dollar!...and get fat, very fat at very fast pace.

Chipsy shows how creative Egyptian can be. I think there will be not less than 10 flavours for this brand. On average, I think I consumed at least 2 packs per week. Make my stomach rounder only.

Reviews (based on personal preference):
Chili+Lime: Not much spice but every bite is sourish. I don't like it.
Cheese: Too cheesy for me, make my stomach weak. I don't like it.
